Outlook for Mac supports accounts managed by Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 or later versions, OR Office 365 for Business. Possible cause: Your account credentials or Exchange server name are incorrect. Open Outlook and navigate to Menu Bar > Tools > Accounts; In the Accounts window, click the + sign in the lower left-hand corner and click New Account; In the new window, enter the email address and click Continue; In case server settings were not found automatically, Outlook will ask about email provider. For Exchange account select Exchange, for Office 365 choose Office365.

I was finally able to close the loop with the user this morning. I completely removed Office Standard 2016 for Mac and reinstalled off a fresh ISO downloaded from the VLSC. The following happens when adding the Exchange account:. We enter her email address & password. We're redirected to our organization's SSO page.
She signs in. Outlook displays the warning about our certificate. We accept it. Outlook asks about allowing our O365 tenant to configure the client. Outlook tells us authentication failed.
I'm leaning toward some oddball mismatch with her password, but she can sign in to OWA using the same credentials.

NOTE: For mailboxes that will process and store large volumes of email, it is recommended that they be set up to connect to SmarterMail using IMAP as EWS performance suffers when processing large volumes of email.
